CHALLENGES

Term 3 started this week and along with it comes some new challenges.

We have a lot planned for the term.

There is the 'Doodle for Google' challenge. Press the link below to see what we have to do.

Then we have Te Wiki o te Reo Maori (Maori Language Week). We will immerse ourselves in our indigenous language.

Then we have the school cross country which coincides with the school 'Fun Run'.

And finally we move on to 'Speeches'.
We have watched this powerful speech by a young NZ man Finnian Galbraith about 'the importance of correctly pronouncing Maori words'.
He has been our motivation for what a great speech could sound like.
Watch it too and be inspired and amazed.

And that takes us up to Week 5.
After that we will reflect on what we have learned and focus on the second half of the term.

Hopefully you stay with us and enjoy the journey ahead.

TE AO (The Maori World)

It's the end of Term 2 and it's been a busy one.
We had some fun this week learning a new long stick(mau rakau) song and dance.

To round out we read a NZ text by Peter Gossage called 'In the Beginning'
It's about how light came to Aotearoa(New Zealand).
We recreated some of the guardians mentioned in the text.

Towards the end of Term 2 we took part in a unit on skipping, which is a great cardio-vascular workout for both boys and girls, everyone in general.

There were many of us who struggled to jump over the rope when we started. But we are now proud to say we can not only jump over the rope, but we can do many skipping routines that we wouldn't have attempted at the start of our sessions.

Here we are trying some different skipping challenges.

BUDDY READING

As part of our Tuakana/Teina programme at Koromatua School, we have been reading to and with some of our smaller buddies in Room 5.
This is an activity that we look forward to every day, especially knowing that we are helping our Teina friends learn to read.

Here we are reading with our little friends.
Thanks for having us Ms Shore and Room 5.

MATARIKI

As part of  our Matariki (Maori New Year) learning, we read a text called 'Rona and the Moon'. We created some visual art pieces inspired by Stephanie Kim's artwork.
Take a look for yourself...

Then to finish the week off we baked some potatoes and smothered them in salt, pepper and butter.
Nom, nom!
