SPEECHES

Thanks to this powerful statement made by Ralph Waldo Emerson, we chose our speech topics for 2016.

Students presented speeches that were persuading, converting, humorous, sad, and finally that were compelling.

What an entourage of topics and a confidence seemed to ooze from our speakers as they spoke.

Seven speakers were chosen from R9 to represent the Year 4 and 5's at the whole school finals held on Friday 12th August.

What a huge step up it was and I wish to thank all participants for their inspirational talks, to the parents who know doubt endured hours and hours of listening and critiquing.
Finally I wish to thank the judges who saw through the students nerves to select overall winners for our school.
Our 1st place-getters will go forward to our areas finals.
Good luck to the two from our class.
Mrs M will be there supporting you both on the 1st September.

Here are our speakers who went through to the finals.

Congratulations from us all in Room 9!

SPEECHES

Term 3 represents 'Speeches'.

This term was no different.
The students were given the opportunity to write and share something they were passionate about with their peers.

We had subjects from 'Why you should wash your hands, Chocolate, Why Video Games are Good for You and basketball' to name a few.

From our classrooms presentations, we chose children to go through to the Year group finals.

Congratulations to two of our people for coming in the top three in the Year 5 level.

CHALLENGES

Term 3 started this week and along with it comes some new challenges.

We have a lot planned for the term.

There is the 'Doodle for Google' challenge. Press the link below to see what we have to do.

Then we have Te Wiki o te Reo Maori (Maori Language Week). We will immerse ourselves in our indigenous language.

Then we have the school cross country which coincides with the school 'Fun Run'.

And finally we move on to 'Speeches'.
We have watched this powerful speech by a young NZ man Finnian Galbraith about 'the importance of correctly pronouncing Maori words'.
He has been our motivation for what a great speech could sound like.
Watch it too and be inspired and amazed.

And that takes us up to Week 5.
After that we will reflect on what we have learned and focus on the second half of the term.

Hopefully you stay with us and enjoy the journey ahead.
