CAPTURING SUMMER

We have been busy writing pieces about summer in our neck of the woods.
Here are some of our pieces;

Chorus cicada
In summer there are lots of cicadas. They rub their legs and it makes a sound.
The grass moves because of the wind, and grows because of the rain.  Cars drive around to look for a pool, so people can have a swim because it is so hot in the summer.
There are trees all around the Earth. They move because of the wind. They grow from small seeds to big trees.
Cows eat the grass and give their owners milk. They move their tails and moo! In the summer bees give us honey.
People use lawnmowers to cut the grass because it grows too tall.  Plants grow because people water them and some even give you food.
There are a lot of kids in their classrooms jumping around and dancing.

I can hear cicadas rub their legs together. They make a clicky sound.  Cars drive past with a thundering vroom sound.  The grass moves from side to side.  The leaves fall, spin and flip through the air.  Birds make a tweet tweet sound.  Little ants crawl on and under the dirt.
I see long purple grass and short dead grass.
Crumbly bits of dirt filled with grass, pokes out of the dirt.

Today I was outside with my class capturing summer.
I heard a cicada. It made a sound. When they rub their legs together they click. I saw the grass blow sideways. I looked at the leaves as they fell off the tree branch. They twirled and spun as they fell. The branch brushed calmly through the wind. The birds whistled. The cars ‘zoom’ past, the engines make noisy  sounds ‘vroom’. My ears hear the sounds of a lawn mower cutting the grass.

Clouds moves when we are moving. Ants are crawling all around the world. Cicadas rub their legs together and it makes a loud sound.  Cars drive past really fast. Butterflies fly around too.

In summer you can hear seagulls squawking. You can see them flying around and you can see the sand and water. Sometimes you can see islands and crabs.
You can hear waves crashing and hitting the sand, but you can still swim and have a fantastic time.

Capturing Summer

In the holidays my whanau went to the beach.
First we put up the big blue tent.
Next we went boogie boarding.
Then I lay down on the sand and listened for the sounds I could hear.
I heard loud white seagulls, the wind and the waves crashing down onto people.
Then I got up and saw myself covered in wet sand.
I like capturing summer.

I   can  see bees as they  get  the nectar out  of the   red   flower.
I  can  hear  leaves  on  the tree wave around  in  the  wind.
I  can  see the  birds  fly together as a group  in  the  trees. I  can  hear  cars zoom  past the children in room-9.

I heard the breeze blow the leaves through the trees. Butterflies fly around the garden.
The sticks crack in the trees and fall to the ground.
Insects walk beside me in the green grass.
The grass grows and moves a lot.
Trees blow and leaves come floating down.

I saw insects that moved on the ground. There were cicadas that clicked by rubbing their legs together.
The grass flowed with the wind. The clouds moved through the sky slowly. The summer breeze pushed me. The leaves crumbled together.

Cicadas are summer bugs that rub their leg hairs together to make a clicking sound.
Grass shakes when the warm, summer breeze hits it. Leaves spin on the twigs of trees. Kids at school click their pens.
Lawnmowers make rumbling sounds. RUMBLE RUMBLE!
Ants are in a rush to get home as birds fly gracefully to their nests.

The cicada makes its sound while the cars drive down the big hill.  The leaves spin round and round in the breeze.  The cows say moo. I see children in their classrooms just doing WORK!!!
That's summer!!!

Leaves spin and fall as butterflies fly past. Clouds float and cows moo while people break sticks on the ground.

Cicadas rub their legs together.  Cars rumble past.  Cows eat grass, lots and lots of grass.  Leaves fall off the branch, one by one.  As my class slowly moves by Rooms 5 and 6, I see tons of ants, eight garden plants and some clicking beetles.
