MATARIKI

As part of  our Matariki (Maori New Year) learning, we read a text called 'Rona and the Moon'. We created some visual art pieces inspired by Stephanie Kim's artwork.

Then to finish the week off we baked some potatoes and smothered them in salt, pepper and butter.

STUDENT COUNCIL PARTY

The student council in our school organised a lunchtime of activities for two classrooms and we were lucky to be one of them. 

Here we are participating with each other in an array of fun tasks.

MUSIC in TERM 2

Mrs M gave us some instruments to sort into groups such as percussion, woodwind, brass and stringed. Here is how we got on.

 

 

 

Then we got the opportunity to practise clapping our names and recording it as music symbols.

Then we got into groups again and added our own take on musical notation to traditional nursery rhymes.

We performed these to our class.

PLANTS & THEIR MEDICINAL USES

In Term 2 we looked at native NZ plants and trees that serve as rongoa (medicinal use of plants). This investigation came about from our interest in trees and finding out what we knew (which was a lot), with what we wanted to know more about.

Our investigations began with identifying native NZ plants and trees. There were many.
Then we wanted to find what RONGOA was and how it is and was used as a way for treating medicinal problems.

We each took one plant or tree and researched its properties.

It helped us to identify more plants in our school environment and equipped us with some knowledge when we were out and about too.
