OUR FLAG of CHOICE

In March, NZ as a country had to vote for a national flag. One that would see us through the years to come.
There was a lot of debate around which flag would be chosen, even in our little neck of the woods.

Would New Zealanders stick with the flag we have had
or would Kiwis vote for the new flag designed by Kyle Lockwood.

This prompted us to research some history around our current NZ flag as well as the flags from around the world.
Take a look at some of our learning...

In our class the race for the flag choice was made...
It was a close race, but we voted and by the narrowest of margins R9 chose this flag...

FUNKY HAIR and DRESS UP DAYS

Here we are with our funky hair do's for our whole school event.
Even the teachers got in on the act.

This was our tribute to Dr Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham.

UP, UP and AWAY

As part of the 'Balloons over Waikato' festival we read Colin Thompson's 'Tower to the Sun'.
This story is about how a young boy and his grandfather can no longer see the sun, due to pollution in the world. So they decide to build a tower, solely made out of some of the landmarks from around the world.

This inspired us to think of all the landmarks we knew and we imagined what it would be like if we could fly over the top of these landmarks in our own hot air balloons.
This was our inspiration.

I hope you like our results.

As you scroll through our artwork, leave us a message about how many landmarks you can name from here.

A BUS CALLED HEAVEN by Bob Graham

Recently Mrs M read us a text called 'A Bus Called Heaven', about a little girl called Stella who falls in love with a bus. When Stella insists on taking it home, the entire neighbourhood pitches in, to push the old clunker to the little girl's front yard ...where it sits with its front tyres creeping out onto the pavement.
Until one day the bus is taken away by the council to the local junkyard.

It's from there we see the power of the people as they work to try and return the old bus to Stella.

It's a must read for sure. It's just heavenly.

With that story as our inspiration, we created our own bus depicting us all in our unique ways.

DANCE OFF!

Here we are learning one of our class dances.
We've got the beat and rhythm sorted.
It's just our timing we need to work on.
